Overview

We are seeking a catalyst development specialist for hydrotreating and hydrocracking applications to join the Catalyst Center of Excellence (CCoE) at Aramco’s Research & Development Center (R&DC). The CCoE is responsible for developing innovative catalysts to improve refining performance and revenues.

The candidate will conduct R&D research to develop and deploy novel catalyst formulations for petroleum refining and specifically Hydroprocessing technologies by working closely with team members and external collaborators.

Key Responsibilities

Planning, coordinating and leading catalyst R&D projects related to refining applications more specifically hydrocracking and hydrotreating catalysts technologies. This includes idea generation, conceptualization, general planning of project/task, interacting with stakeholders from Engineering, and other business proponents.

As part of job duties, candidate is expected to:

  • Conduct R&D activities related to the development of new hydrocracking/hydrotreating catalysts and improve existing ones.
  • Led lab activities and experiments to test and validate new developed catalyst formulations.
  • Suggest new ideas and modifications for new hydrotreating/hydrocracking catalyst formulations (i.e. metal types, new support materials, modified zeolite materials,..etc.)
  • Develop DOE to assess catalyst performance at lab and pilot scales, be able to interpret performance data and suggest catalyst formulations modifications accordingly.
  • Work closely with refinery process engineers and business planning stakeholders to understand requirements for new catalyst development.
  • Assess technical and business opportunities and identify potential areas for research and development, establishing strategy and tactics to achieve technical and business goals.
  • Author technical reports and papers, and generate patent applications as appropriate.
  • Utilize advanced and routine material/catalyst characterization tools and analytical techniques to gain insights about structure/activity relationships, and feed into superior catalyst design and optimization.
  • Manage laboratory activities and develop safe lab protocols to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership to support the training and development of junior mentees.

Minimum Requirements

A PhD/Master degree in Chemical Engineering with research experience in hydrotreating & hydrocracking catalysts development as well as expertise in the technology challenges.

Deep understanding of catalytic reaction mechanism and experience with experimental catalyst development. Hands-on experience in lab operations and catalyst performance evaluation data interpretation. Strong communication skills to work within cross-function teams.
