The Safaniya Design Unit, Part of the Safaniya Technical Support Division is responsible for many of the design changes, expansions, and upgrades in the Northern Area industrial facilities. The Unit is also responsible for maintaining and ensuring drawing database and accuracy. The Design Unit has a team of multi-discipline engineering professionals tasked to perform small to mid-size design projects for the existing plants and facilities.
The desired Electrical Design Engineer’s primary role is to prepare engineering design packages for all onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities throughout the Northern Area. The design work requires a thorough knowledge and familiarity with the Industry Standards, technical design skills and engineering practices in large oil and gas facilities and plants. In addition, the Engineer should have good knowledge and professional experience to produce design concepts, calculations and be able to read and interpret drawings and various Standards with minimum or no supervision.
You will be required to perform the following:
Develop detailed and conceptual design packages including scope of work, drawings, calculations, purchase requisitions for large oil and gas industrial plants. The packages are mainly for the existing plants but may require green field sites as well.
Independently perform engineering design calculations related to sizing of equipment, including transformers, large industrial motor starting calculations and other electrical load calculations for large industrial plants.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical equipment drawings and datasheets, area classification drawings and various industrial electrical standards related to oil and gas industry. Review and comment on large industrial oil and gas projects, evaluate technical submissions and propose solutions to various problems associated with these projects.
Conduct site surveys for detailed design, prepare site survey reports, interact with various proponents and other key personnel including equipment vendors and manufacturers.
Be part of Northern Area Technical Support Department Operational Excellence program and comply with its requirements, including knowledge sharing and transfer to junior Saudi engineers.
Frequently visit the industrial oil and gas facilities in the Northern Area Oil Operations (NAOO), including onshore and offshore facilities. The visits will require various modes of transport including helicopter flying, driving and boat travel. Most of these facilities are in remote areas.
Work as part of multi-disciplinary engineering team who frequently interact to provide design solutions for various plant issues in order to provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operation of the plants and facilities.
As a successful candidate, you
Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering . A higher degree, i.e. Master of Engineering or PhD degree is preferable.
Must have a minimum 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least 10 years as senior electrical design engineer.
Must have engineering working knowledge of various industrial and technical standards related to the oil and gas industry, including NEC, IEC, API and other codes and industrial practices.
Have an extensive experience in design and operation of large and complex industrial plants, preferable for oil and gas separation plants.
Should have an experience in electrical design and operation of electrical equipment including power generation, transmission and distribution, power system design and operation, basic protection systems and networks from 480V to 34.5kV.
Have an experience obtained by working in large international engineering companies that excel in the areas of engineering and design of oil and gas facilities will be preferable. Teamworking and safe working culture are essential skills required for this position.
